The National Anthem Next

The Star-Spangled Banner is the national anthem of the United States of America. The lyrics come from "Defence of Fort McHenry", a poem written in 1814 by Francis Scott Key, after witnessing the attack of Fort McHenry by British Royal Navy ships during the War of 1812.

The Star Spangled Banner was made the national anthem by a congressional resolution on March 3, 1931, which was signed by President Herbert Hoover.

Today, the anthem is performed before the beginning of all Major league soccer and baseball games, and national league football, basketball and hockey games (with at least one American team playing). It is also performed in a pre-race ceremony of every NASCAR race.
