Blog :: Link o' the day

Best image of the day here. I don't know if I'd want it to be my daily commuter, but I'd sure like to take it out for a test drive. Of course you know you need dental work when you've got a bulldozer stuck in your teeth. Ok, I'll stop, but really, go see it.

For the best essay of my day, you'll want to read Pat Conroy's An Honest Confession of an American Coward. I've always been a big fan of Conroy's writing; I read The Water is Wide aloud to my wife back when we used to have spare time... Conroy writes about the south and "the warrior culture of this country" as only someone who loves and hates well can do. From his books I've recognised "The Man" as I've encountered him and marveled at the absolute insanity of the culture of The Citadel back in the day. Conroy is one of my favorite very American voices (up in the pantheon with Tom Wolfe) and I don't think he's a coward. But it is to his credit that he is able to think about his motives and engage in some second thoughts.
